your questions.
What is a maintenance unit?
As an assembly in pneumatic systems, maintenance units have the task of conditioning the energy source – the compressed air. Here you can see an example of the structure of a KNOCKS compressed air maintenance unit for a very high quality class with a tap for a lower quality (according to draft VDMA 15390-1:2013-11).
Why is compressed air preparation with a maintenance unit so important?
Correct compressed air preparation is a requirement for the functional reliability and long service life of pneumatic elements and controls. Dirt particles, water and chemical contaminants can have a negative impact on compressed air consumers and the compressed air network. While solid dirt particles lead to mechanical abrasion, moisture can cause corrosion of parts. The resulting rust particles then cause mechanical damage or blockage of flow cross-sections.
